Do you want to be more merciful?

As we move through the Beatitudes, we come to verse 7 of Chapter 5 of Matthew. It is an important verse that focuses on GOD’S Mercy as today’s hope.

Matthew 5:7

“7 Blessed are the merciful: for they shall obtain mercy.”

Mercy is defined as the outward manifestation of pity. In other words, GOD having pity on you, His creation. W.E. Vine says, “Mercy assumes a need (in other words, your need, my need) ie the one who receives it and He has the resources adequate of Him who gives it! Notice these two distinct benefits of mercy:

Isaiah 48:9

“For my name’s sake will I defer mine anger, and for my praise will I refrain for thee, that I cut thee not off.”

Psalm 103:8

“8 The Lord is merciful and gracious, slow to anger, and plenteous in mercy.”
